Build credits
Credits are what the parts of Spandrel that write things for you run on. Building a site, changing it by describing what you want, drafting an email. You get a batch every month with each website, and they are yours to spend however you like.
The short version
- Every website on your subscription comes with 5,100 credits a month.
- They reset on the first of the month. They do not roll over.
- A new workspace gets 250 credits to try things with, once.
- Your first paid month adds a one-time 7,500 credits on top, so building your first site does not eat the month.
- You can buy more at any time without changing your plan.
What spends them
Anything where you describe what you want and get something written back. Building a site from a description. Asking the editor to change a page. Drafting an email design. Asking for help in your own words.
Editing by hand never costs anything. Clicking on your page and typing, dragging things around, changing colors, adding a page, uploading an image, publishing: all free, all unlimited, forever. If you build your whole site by hand you will not spend a single credit.
What things roughly cost
Building a complete site from a description is the big one, and it is most of what anybody spends. A finished site is typically a few thousand credits, which is why your first paid month gets the extra 7,500.
Everything else is small by comparison. A single edit to a page is a fraction of a build. Asking a help question is smaller again. Once your site exists, a normal month of tweaking it does not come close to 5,100.
Trying it before you pay
A new workspace gets 250 credits, once, for its whole life. They do not refill.
That is enough to describe a site, watch it appear and push it around a little. It is deliberately not enough to finish one. The pot that covers a real first build is the 7,500 you get when you subscribe.
Running out
We tell you before anything stops, and the way out is always on screen. You can buy extra credits without changing your plan, and they never expire.
If you are still working on your first site and you run out, get in touch. Being stuck halfway through your first build with nothing live yet is the worst moment to meet a limit, and we would rather sort it out than leave you there.
Running out never touches your site. Everything you have built stays exactly as it is, your live site keeps serving visitors, and editing by hand keeps working.
Why credits and not a number of builds
Because a build is not one size. Asking for a five-page site with a shop is not the same work as changing a heading, and an allowance counted in builds would have to price them the same. Credits let a light month go further and let you spend a heavy one on whatever you actually needed.
